Summary
The Soviet historiography has a steady tradition of determining the farms having a small sown area in NEP period as poor. The article verifies this point of view regarding South Ukraine. The correlation, cluster and factor analysis of the data of spring selective farms' census (1924) reveals the two models of the South of Ukraine's agricultural production. The comparison of two types of farms discovers that even in South Ukraine where there was the greatest number of victims of the 1922 famine, small sown areas weren't caused by the low-powered economic position of farm.
