Summary
The author analyses an episode in the history of the Kuznetsovs - the famous dynasty of porcelain manufacturers. The head of family Matthew Kuznetsov was declared bankrupt in 1876 and was formally suspended from the leading post in the firm by the board of creditors from 1876-1881. The author researches regional, ethnic and confessional peculiarities of Russian business in particular, and the entrepreneurial activities of Moscow's Old Believers' merchant families. The article contains a vast array of archival materials used for reconstructing the historical events and explaining their reasons. Thus business relations of two upper industrialist and considerable Old Believers' figures - M.S.Kuznetsov and S.M.Shibaev - are in the focus of article's attention.
